The 2009 Sony Bravia V5100 series has been selling for a couple months now, and its become quite the popular lineup in stores with its great mix of affordability and beautiful picture quality & functionality.

Sony's KDL52v5100, kdl46v5100, kdl40v5100

The V5100 consists of 3 sizes much like last years V4100 bravia lineup, with the same sizes as offered last year: The Sony KDL40V5100 measuring in at the smallest (40 inches) the Sony KDL46V5100 in the middle of the pack (46 inches) and the Sony KDL52V5100 LCD is the largest at 52 inches. Noticeable picture quality enhancements are observed comparing the Sony V4100 vs V5100 models, and compared to the rest of the 2009 series lineups like the S5100, W5100, Z5100 and XBR9… you could consider the V-series a lower-mid range type of offering, with superior picture quality and features than the low end Bravia S5100 LCDs, but lacking in the refresh rate, higher picture quality and nifty features such as internet connected content and widgets found on all of the more expensive Bravia W5100 LCDs, Bravia Z5100 LCDs and Bravia XBR9 LCDs.

Compare V5100 versus w5100, S5100, z5100, etc..

The v5100 sits in the middle / low end of the pack, and is known to be a cheap yet still capable family for those that want high end performance yet dont need the bonus features that shoot the pricing way up. It is more powerful and feature rich than the low end S-series models, yet trails greatly behind the high end Z and xbr9-series. It sits most closely in resemblance to the slightly more expensive W-series, although gives up some internet and media connected features to offer an even nicer looking pricetag to budget shoppers.

Compare Sony Bravia V5100 vs S5100

The Sony KDL-S5100 models are the entry level fullhd 1080p models released in this years bravia lineup, they are quite cheap and compared to other FullHD capable sets offer an awesome price point for the features and picture quality offered. Compared versus the Sony V5100 series the most notable difference is the loss of 120Hz refresh rate that was a feature of high end tvs last year, opting instead for the standard 60Hz refresh rate LCDs of last year were commonly sold with. Many changes to imaging engines and algorithms make the V5100 have a superior picture reproduction and thus a slightly higher price tag.

The Sony Bravia S5100 series LCDs consist of the 40″ Sony 40s5100, 46″ Sony 46s5100, 52″ Sony 52s5100 and 32″ Sony 32s5100 lcd television

Compare Sony Bravia V5100 vs w5100

The Sony KDL-V5100 lineup offers some big changes and differences when compared to the cheaper kdlv5100 models, the most important of which is the onboard internet connectivity and the included functionaity of Bravia internet widgets and bravia internet library. Widgets allow for display of internet pulled data such as live stocks, weather, sports scores and more; in resizable, arrangeable and placeable windows that sit right on screen to make sure you can still watch your normal program/video while also paying attention to the information pulled lived from the web. Also access content from sources such as yahoo, flickr, youtube and many other online media sources making this a truly connected television with many extra features over just image and audio playback.

The Sony Bravia w5100 series televisions consist of the 65inch Sony 65w5100, 40inch Sony 40w5100, 46inch Sony 46w5100, and 52inch Sony 52w5100 fullHD televisions

Compare Sony Bravia V5100 vs z5100

The high end sony KDL-Z5100 series continues to build on the features offered in the w5100 over the v5100, while also having a new bravia engine, higher contrast and many other little changes that make the z5100 have a marked upgrade in picture quality with more realism and richness for the absolute most brilliant picture and sound. The z5100 also ups the refresh rate by nearly double with this years new MotionFlow 240hz technology, which will greatly reduce image problems in motion that will be visible in the cheaper 120hz and 60hz lineups talked about above; resulting in a much cleaner, noise free and breathtaking visual experience.

The Sony Bravia z5100 series hdtvs consist of the 40 inch Sony 40z5100, 46 inch Sony 46z5100 and the 52 inch Sony 52z5100 lcd hdtvs.

Compare Sony Bravia V5100 vs XBR9

The top of the line sony kdlxbr9 series features all of the features of the above sets, plus gets an even larger upgrade in the picture quality department where the z5100 leaves off, using a more expensive and capable backlight technology to make for the absolute most realistic and natural picture quality possible. Other little changes make the xbr9 series worthy of its price increase over the z5100, and all the above differences plus this make for a large gap in performance, features and functionality from the low-mid range v5100 series

The Sony Bravia xbr9 series consists of the 32″ Sony 32xbr9, 40″ Sony 40xbr9, 46″ Sony 46xbr9 and 52″ Sony 52xbr9 high end lcd tvs.

Heres a great video Sony W5100 review that goes into great depth to explain some of the new 2009 features on the mid to high end bravias released this year. It is pretty long and detailed at 10 minutes and goes over the exciting new features of Bravia Internet Widgets, Bravia Internet Video, DLNA, MotionFlow technology, and the cosmetics of the thin and slim profile bezel:

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhL4jIoBrX0&hl=en&fs=1&]

The 2009 W-Series is offered in 4 sizes ranging from 65-inches at the largest down to 40-inches, the individual sizes are marked by the number in front of the W5100 in the model number: The Sony KDL65W5100 LCD (65″ measured diagonally), Sony KDL52W5100 LCD (52″ measured diagonally), Sony KDL46W5100 LCD (46″ measured diagonally) and Sony KDL40W5100 LCD (40″ measured diagonally). It takes a step down from the Sony Bravia Z5100 models and the top of the line Sony Bravia XBR9 models (The new XBR10 LED Series will release in 2009, but is different and not the same tech nor price class) with subtle changes and the loss of this years new 240Hz motionflow capabilities, and is the cheapest of the above 3 series to still offer the full internet connected features of the widgets and content librarys and streaming media where the lower end Sony Bravia V5100 series and entry 1080p level Sony S5100 series lack these features and others to remain cheaper alternatives.

The video is well done and quite informative, and anyone looking for Sony W5100 reviews or feature lists will appreciate it.

The Sony Bravia KDL-Z5100 steps up to the plate with big shoes to fill where the KDL-Z4100 left off last year in the famed Z-Series lineup. There has been considerable upgrades and additions, and the picture quality and feature set is noticeably improved with modern features, internet and multimedia additions, and major increases in picture quality as well as improvements upon commonly reported downfalls to last years Z-Series to make the new Sony Bravia Z5100 series one of the highest quality lcd lineups released yet!

Sony's KDL52z5100, kdl46z5100 & kdl40z5100

This years lineup also brings a new size availability to the table, where the Z4100 series was only available in 46-inch and 40-inch sizes (The KDL46Z4100 & KDL40Z4100) but misses on the option to choose either a black or silver design like its predecessors; new is a 52-icnh variations along with the same sizes as last year, with the models: KDL40Z5100 (40″ 2009 Z-Series LCD) KDL46Z5100 (46″ 2009 Z-series LCD ) and KDL52Z5100 (52″ 2009 Z-series LCD). Below are some of the notable differences when comparing the KDLZ5100 series to similar 2009 models and last years KDLZ4100 Lineup:

Compare 2008’s Sony Z4100 vs Z5100

Big upgrades on the technical specs here, bringing up contrast ratio dramatically and using new engines and features built in to result in a much better, realistic and natural image reproduction. The design has changed to a cool slim form factor, and new features such as Bravia internet widgets that allow you to place data such as weather, sports scores and much more on your screen, as well as the Bravia internet media library which brings content from the likes of flickr, youtube, amazon, and more make this a much different and more gadget/tech rich LCD HDTV worthy of the high-end ‘Z series’ family emblem.

Differences between KDL52Z5100, KDL46Z5100, KDL40Z5100

Not much to report here, but many shoppers do wonder if there are differences between the 3 available models. The answer is no, the onyl major differeces when you compoare the 52z5100 vs 46z5100 vs 40z5100 is their size, so you can choose a unit that matches your tastes and viewing distance for best overall experience. The Sony Bravia KDL 52Z5100 1080p LCD measures in at 52-inches and weights 66.3 lbs (Full Specs Here), the sony kdl 46z5100 1080p lcd measures in at 46-inches and weights 52.9 lbs(Full Specs Here) and the Sony Bravia KDL 40Z5100 1080p lcd is the smallest measuring 40-inches diagonally and weighting 43 lbs (Full Specs Here).

Compare Z5100 vs XBR9, Z5100 vs W5100, Z5100 vs V5100, etc…

Compare Sony KDLZ5100 vs KDLXBR9 Series: The two highest end models available from the 2009 additions to the Bravia brand, the sony xbr9 line-up offers the absolutely the best available picture quality, with the major defining differences when comparing the z5100 versus xbr9 being the difference in backlighting, where the XBR9’s use a higher end backlight capable of more visually stunning, realistic and natural picture quality.

Compare Sony KDLZ5100 vs KDLW5100 Series: A slight drop in price at the cost of some of the more newly introduced technology make the Sony Bravia W5100 line-up a great choice for those want some of the best without breaking the bank. Comparing the Z5100 versus W5100 models, defining differences include the loss of the 240Hz refresh rate unveiled in 2009, reverting back to last years big thing in 120Hz motionflow technology. Picture quality on the cheaper KDLW5100 is noticeable lower, but not as drastic as some of the other downgrades and upgrades in series.

Compare Sony KDLZ5100 vs KDLV5100 Series: On the slightly lower end of the spectrum, the Bravia V5100 line-up offers a great value/performance mix to consumer by dropping some of the more advanced technology and multimedia/internet features. Comparing the Z5100 versus V5100 you have the loss of 240Hz refresh rate for 120Hz, picture quality decrease, less advanced and modern algorithms and image engines, no internet widgets or multimedia features among some other less drastic changes.

Compare Sony KDLZ5100 vs KDLS5100 Series: An introductory level 1080p FullHD set, the Bravia S5100 line-up is for the shopper that wants a FullHD set but doesnt want any of the advanced features, gadgets, increased connectivity but just wants a decent picture quality in 1080p. Comparing the Z5100 versus v5100 you lose 240Hz refresh rate down to 60Hz, very noticeable decreases in image quality with the less advanced and older bravia engine and processing, less connectivity, no internet or multimedia features found on the z, xbr9 and w series and some other less noticeable downgrades.

Sony’s 2009 addition to the entry level Bravia S-Series, the KDLS5100 series strips some features of the more expensive line-ups to offer shoppers a value orientated Full HD 1080p LCD option.

Sony's KDL52S5100, kdl46S5100, kdl40S5100 & KDL32S5100

It has replaced the S4100 series of last year, building on picture quality and adding some modern features of their old and new high end televisions, to produce a set that is perfect for those looking for a cheaper 1080p option with the latest in technology. The new Bravia KDL-S5100 series features offers a 10-bit display and processor which helps it to be quite possibly one of the top choices in its class and price range, and is sure to be among the top dogs of entry level 1080p units for the foreseeable future. Check below to compare Sony’s Bravia S5100 models, and find the differences between it and its siblings introduced to the 2009 Bravia brand:

Compare KDL52S5100 vs KDL46S5100 vs KDL40S5100 vs KDL325100:

There are four current Bravia KDL-S5100 models available. There are no defining differences to consider when comparing these units, with the only noticeable difference being their respective sizes. Covering sizes of 52-inches down to 32-inches with the KDL-52S5100, KDL-46S5100, KDL-40S5100 and KDL-32S5100 (52, 46, 40 and 32 inch models respectively) there is great choice for shoppers to get a television near their desired size and price requests.

Compare Sony KDL-S5100 vs KDL-V5100:

When you step up a level in the Bravia family and compare the S5100 vs V5100 models, the main difference to consider is the improved 120Hz refresh rate up from 60Hz and added connectivity options for those with many peripherals. Picture quality is also improved slightly, with differences in the imaging technology and engines and higher contrast ratios. The Sony KDL-V5100 series loses out on the 32” size availability, consisting of the KDL-52V5100, KDL-46V5100 and KDL-40V5100 models, measuring again; 52-inches, 46-inches and 40-inches respectively

Compare Sony KDL-S5100 vs KDL-W5100:

Even further up the line, the Sony Bravia W5100 LCD series models improve upon the differences of the V series over the S series, whilst offering a few other upgrades. When you compare Sony’s S5100 vs W5100 models, further additions of Bravia Internet Widgets and streaming media content from the web as well further enhanced contrast ratio and image/color engines to improve overall picture quality noticeably… help the Sony KDL-W5100 worthy of the increased sticker price. Again the Sony KDL-W5100 line-up misses out on the smaller 32” version of the S5100 lineup, and consists of the KDL-52W5100, KDL-46W5100 and KDL-40W5100 models measuring 52, 46 and 40 inches respectively.

Compare Sony KDL-S5100 vs KDL-Z5100:

On the high end of the scale, the Z-series offers shoppers a more feature rich and quality experience than its cheaper line-ups. Comparing the Sony S5100 vs Z5100 models, the most notable differences, including the already covered above, are 240Hz motionflow technology for the best available in refresh rate to help reduce picture distortions and problems, further improvements help make the picture quality of the Z5100 stand out and provide a much more realistic, natural and brilliant experience. Again the KDL-Z5100 series misses out on the smaller size of 32 inches for shoppers looking for a smaller hdtv (although adds the 40” which the 2008 Z4100 series lacked) and consists of the KDL-52Z5100, KDL-46Z5100 and KDL-40Z5100 measuring in as always as the 52inch, 46inch and 40inch variations.

Compare Sony KDL-S5100 vs KDL-XBR9:

At the top of the 2009 Bravia options, Sony’s KDL-XBR9 series offers the very best in LCD quality and modern features this year. Comparing the Sony KDLS5100 vs KDLXBR9, there is a massive difference in price, performance and experience. Similar to the Z5100, which is just slightly less expensive, the XBR9 is different from the Z-Series in its use of improved backlight technology, which helps the XBR9 to have the absolute highest quality and most realistic image reproduction. The XBR9 also has a different physical design and doesn’t share the slim profile of the KDLV5100 series, but does contain the smaller 32” size option like the S5100 where the other line-ups are missing this size availability. The Bravia XBR9 LCD Series consists of the Bravia KDL-52XBR9, KDL-46XBR9, KDL-XBR9 and KDL-32XBR9 (52, 46, 40 and 32 inch options)

Pros & Cons found in Sony XBR9 Reviews:

The Sony Bravia XBR9 series has been selling like hotcakes since its release, and with a wide variety of available size, there are tons of Sony KDLXBR9 reviews coming in from people that have purchased and/or used the unit. Below are some of the commonly reported pros and cons noted in Sony KDL-XBR9 review content from around the web:

Common Pros in Sony KDLXBR9 Reviews

has 240Hz refresh rate for smoothest lcd picture available

amazing picture quality with high contrast ratio

innovative and usefull data and content displayed intuitively with widgets

incredibly attractive design and bezel

great performance for price compared to similar sets

Common Cons in Sony KDL-XBR9 Reviews

Not LED backlit like XBR8

Backlight bleeding sometimes noticeable

Not cheap

Compare Sony XBR9 vs XBR8 vs XBR10 vs XBR7:

The 2009 Sony KDLXBR9 series is the follow up to 2008’s KDLXBR7 series, and although it would seem to make more sense that it would be the follow-up to the Bravia KDLXBR8 series also released last year, note that the XBR8 uses LED LCD technology where the models in question do not, and as such we end up with this really confused heirachy between the XBR 7,8, 9 and now the recently Bravia KDLXBR10 series (The sony kdl52xbr10 and kdl46xbr10 will use LED technology and thus I will further confuse when I say that the XBR10 series is the direct 2009 upgrade to the XBR8 series of last year. The Bravia XBR-9 lineup consists of several models (The 52 inch Bravia KDL-52XBR9 / 46 inch Bravia KDL-46XBR9 / 40 inch Bravia KDL-40XBR9 / and 32 inch Bravia KDL-32XBR9 LCD televisions) and when you compare these units there are no significant differences between them except for size, denoted by the numbers in the middle, measured diagonally.

‘XBR10 out in october @ MSRP of $4500 & $5000′

Announced a few weeks ago, the Sony Bravia XBR10 series is a new line-up of LED backlit LCD televisions that will become the flagship series and by far most expensive entries to the Sony 2009 HDTV family. They are expected to start shipping late October to early November and will hit stores with hefty MSRP list prices of $4500 and $5000 for the 46″ KDL-46XBR10 and 52″ KDL-52XBR10 respectively.
The Sony Bravia XBR9 models did away with the LED backlight found in the Sony XBR8 series, and as such actually had a noticeable price difference and performance lagged with LED being the superior albeit more expensive technology. Comparde to the KDL-XBR8 series of 2008 however the KDL52XBR10 & KDL46XBR10 have a few major differences to consider when comparing them, among the most important:

New Ultra-Thin design: This is accomplished with the support of having a box wirelessly transmit the 1080p signals to the television. This allows for an insanely slick and thin design while being able to put source perhiperhals out of site.

Internet Features - content and streaming media from sources such as Amazon, Youtube, Netflix and many more via a growing list of content providers. New internet widgets allow for display of resizeable info boxes placed on the display that can show information such as the latest stock quotes, weather updates and sports score changes up to the minute while watching your normal content.

MotionFlow 240Hz technology… a noticeable differences when compare vs the xbr8’s 120Hz refresh rate – for smoother and less problematic (judder), fast moving images and action

Read more XBR10 features…

“KDLXBR9 -The cream of the crop so far in 2009 LCD TVs”

Currently holding the title of Sony’s #1 performing (and most expensive) 2009 HDTV, the Sony XBR9 Series is the epitome of performance and function in the current LCD HDTV market. Near the end of the year that will chance with the announcement of the Sony KDL52XBR10 and KDL46XBR10 models, but those are going to retail at the end of the year for thousands more than the current 52″ model (Sony KDL52XBR9) and 46″ model (Sony KDL46XBR9) models, and offering more options at size as well with the 32 inch KDL32XBR9 variation and the popular KDL40XBR9 40 inch variation.

Sony's KDL52XBR9, KDL46XBR9, KDL40XBR9 & KDL32XBR9

With an impressive array and set of cool gadgets and content techie nerds will love, the XBR9 features like internet connected widgets and other Internet media and entertainment streaming and available via the KDL-XBR9’s preinstalled Ethernet, a first this year, for the Bravia family.

“Only size differs 52XBR9 vs 46XBR9 vs 40XBR9 vs 32XBR9″

Lots of people have been asking questions and wondering which Sony Bravia XBR9 is right for them and if there are differences between the various XBR9 line-up units. The answer is simple, there are no technical, performance or feature differences comparing the xbr9 family, with the numbers in the model name just describing its size in inches (diagonally)

Sony KDL-52XBR9 - 52-inch LCD 132lbs

Sony KDL-32XBR9 - 32-inch LCD 132lbs

Straight forward eh? lots of people have no clue though!

Compare KDLXBR9 vs KDLZ5100, KDLW5100, etc..

There are many tiny and insignificant differences when comparing the Sony XBR9, Z5100, W5100, V5100, and S5100 series and models within… below are the most significant differences between them:

Compare the Sony KDL52XBR9 vs KDL52Z5100: Using a different backlight mechanism and some different software and algorithms, this provides the XBR a serious advantage in picture quality and realism over the Bravia 52Z5100 through a much wider color set and more depth, saturation and realism behind those colors.

Compare the Sony 52XBR9 vs 52W5100: Also having the same disadvantage as the above, the Bravia KDL52W5100 also lacks the brand new and 2009 first 240Hz motionflow technology, instead having last year’s buzzed and high end refresh rate of 120Hz. This will result in the W5100 having the picture quality disadvantage as the Z5100, and will also make more noticeable; image noise, breaking and judder during fast moving images and action, a common problem on LCD televisions among their many advantages.

Compare the Sony 52XBR9 vs 52V5100: Moving down the scale towards the low compared to the above 3 high end displays, the Bravia KDL52V5100 takes the differences of the above and also lacks all of the internet and media features of the Z, XBR9 and W5100 Series models. Other minor differences and features are missing, allowing this television to be much cheaper compared to the above counterparts.

Compare the Sony 52XBR9 vs 52S5100: Coming in as the entry level FullHD (1080p resolution) model set of 2009, the Bravia KDL52S5100 skips out on all the goodies of the above units, also lacking the 120Hz and 240Hz motionflow of the v, W, Z, and XBR9 families; going back to the old standard of 60Hz refresh which will make for noticeable judder and image distortions during rapid pace changes of on screen content. The loss of the bells and whistles coupled with the low refresh rate help to make the S5100 incredibly affordable however!

Sony’s KDL52W5100 LCD HDTV is the 2009 model 52inch variation of the incredibly popular Bravia W series. It has all the latest in audio and video technology for awesome performance… Full HD 1080p resolution, Motionflow 120Hz for crisp and clean fast-moving images and super high 100,000:1 contrast ratio among other things help the Sony KDL-52W5100 LCD provide some of the best looking and jaw-dropping video and is a very noticeable upgrade over the previous w-series units.

52\

This year’s model also has a bunch of new gadgets and tricks up its sleeve that really make it stand out as well and make for quite a different experience than its predecessor the 2008 Sony KDL52W4100 the new online connectivity features using your home internet connection allow you to access content from the web from such providers as YouTube, Sports Illustrated, Amazon, Sony Pictures & music and many more with an ever growing list of content providers bringing their multimedia to this feature. The widgets features lets you get information and entertainment such as real time news, sports updates, weather and so much more… these ‘widgets’ can be positioned and sized on your display so that you can be constantly updated to the minute as you regularly watch your program. This among other things make the KDLW5100 incredibly exciting and if early signs are any indication, it will be as popular as its little brother of the preview year, the Sony KDL-52W4100, which was one of the most popular HDTVs of 2008!

Compare Sony’s KDL52W5100 vs:

The Sony W5100 series is a mid-to-high end lineup of this year’s Bravia HDTVs and as such offers great value for such a strong performing and feature rich set. It adds on greatly compared to the lower end KDL52S5100 and KDL52V5100 series models, while trailing slightly with a cheaper price tag to the top of the line KDL52Z5100 and KDL52XBR9 models. It represents a great mix of performance and value and is sure to be one of if not the most popular models because of this.

I spent an incredible amount of time to really research the best LCD or Plasma HDTV for the money before ultimately deciding on this after reading many other positive and some downright persuasive customer Sony kdl-46Z4100 reviews online. I was originally turned onto it right after the holidays but never got around to ordering, and to my surprise the price dropped quite nicely and now is an even better bang for the buck thanks in part to the announcement of next year’s Bravia Z series coming in the next year. There are already tons of Sony kdl46z4100/b and kdl464100/s reviews out there, so I will try and add my own insights and not just say what all the other 5 star reports have beaten in dozens of times:

120Hz is awesome, I was kind of skeptical at the difference and almost went with a more standard 60Hz LCD to save some money, but now am definitely grabbed it, the KDL46W4100 also has 120Hz and is a bit cheaper for those looking for the cheapest 120Hz Bravia.

The television is absolutely gorgeous, the bezel, design, and overall design and finish is just brilliant and beautiful to look at and wall mounted the Bravia 46Z4100 is an eye catcher for all that walk by.

Noticeable picture quality increase when you compare vs. the KDL46V4100 and KDL46W4100 (the two slightly lower end models of the 46-inch size) still being frugal after realizing this LCD for me, I went to BB to compare the KDL46Z4100 versus the other options, and in person I got confirmation it is a superior set to justify the extra money spent.

Great sound… One thing I was kind of worried about from reading other people’s KDL-46Z4100/s and KDL-46Z4100/b review comments (the b stands for black frame and s for silver) was the sound might not be as good as it could be… but I have no complaints and as an old man the sound is still rich and clear for my aging ears hehe…

Tons of other things, price vs. performance, glare, remote, size, shopping experience through amazon, menus, etc…. there is tons of other reports and reviews out there that will describe more points, these are just the most standout things I remember off the top of my head

Overall I am truly pleased and wouldn’t pick another set if I had the chance. The only negative / con I can point out so far is that the sony z4100 series doesn’t have a 52-inch option, and the extra size would’ve been nice and a further worthwhile investment seeing as how much we are watching old movies and tv these days thanks to our new favorite toy!!!

Two thumbs way upp for Sony’s Bravia Z models!!!!!
